Abstract

The incorporation of technology into psychological therapies has developed into a revolutionary
method for addressing the growing global need for mental health care. Technological technologies
such as mobile apps, telepsychology platforms, virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and
digital treatments create new means to make therapy more accessible, tailored, and scalable
(Andersson et al., 2014; Philippe et al., 2022). Despite apprehensions regarding privacy, user
involvement, and the digital divide, research indicates efficacy in addressing prevalent mental
health disorders such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD across many contexts (Lattie et al., 2019;
Rehman et al., 2024). Recent advancements suggest that AI-enhanced extended reality (XR)
environments can enhance treatment engagement and alleviate symptoms (JMIR, 2025), while selfguided virtual reality (VR) may prove effective for anxiety interventions (Graham et al., 2025). This
study brings together the most recent evidence, looks at the pros and cons, and suggests new ways
to use technology in mental health care.
